World Evangelism/ World-wide Missions: God’s Purpose and Heart in All Dispensations
God has always purposed and sought for people from all parts of the world to belong to and worship Him. This was His purpose before the Fall; Adam and Eve’s seed would multiply into a vast multitude of righteous people giving God glory. After the Fall the gospel was available to all the children of Adam and Eve until the days of Noah. From Noah’s day until the tower of Babel the gospel was available to all people. Immediately after Genesis records the judgment at Babel (Genesis 11) Scripture records the call of Abraham (Genesis 12), in whose Seed all families and nations of the world would be blessed (Genesis 12:3). Israel was called to be a light to all nations, and from her redemption from Egypt, entrance into Canaan, her monarchy, and her exile, God used Israel to spread the gospel to spread the light to all nations. Israel was a nation called to practice world evangelism or missions. Her songs of worship in the Psalter summoned all nations to praise Jehovah, God of Israel. In the church age, the resurrected Savior gave His local assemblies the Great Commission (Matthew 28; Mark 16; Luke 24; John 20) and His churches were called to “be witnesses unto [Jesus Christ] both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8). Christianity has always been a religion for all peoples in the world, and Bible-believing churches have always practiced world evangelism or missions. In the future Millennial kingdom the gospel will be available to all nations, and in the eternal state all peoples will praise their Redeemer: “Thou art worthy … for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation” (Revelation 5:9). This was God’s purpose even from eternity–the Father set His love on people from all nations in eternity past, the Son determined to die for and save them, and the Spirit determined to bring them to Christ (John 17). God’s eternal redemptive purpose and free, unmerited, absolutely gracious love for sinful men from every people and country must motive His churches to make disciples of all nations through earnest efforts at worldwide evangelism and missions.
The following sermons exposit God’s eternal purpose in all dispensations and His specific mandate in the Great Commission for His churches in this dispensation.
